ACS-005 Stratum Filters Clarify Optical Coatings

This application case study looks into improving optical coatings for specialty faceplates used in military applications to ensure clarity and reduce defects.

The customer, a manufacturer of specialty faceplates for military applications, faced challenges with distortion in vision due to contaminants in their silicone hard coat solution. Despite using GE filters, larger contaminants were passing through, causing defects and high scrap rates. By switching to Graver Stratum Series filters, the customer achieved zero defects, improved filter life, and experienced lower pressure drops. The advanced melt blown structure of Stratum filters outperformed competitors in retention efficiency and gel capture. The customer plans to evaluate STC 5 micron filters for extended filter life and contaminant control.

Highlights:

  • Customer faced distortion issues in vision due to contaminants in silicone hard coat
  • GE filters were inefficient in capturing larger contaminants, leading to defects and high scrap rates
  • Switching to Graver Stratum Series filters resulted in zero defects and improved filter life
  • Stratum filters outperformed competitors in retention efficiency and gel capture
  • Customer plans to evaluate STC 5 micron filters for extended filter life and contaminant control
