Cosmetics and Topicals

The filtration of topical agents, including toiletries, cosmetics and medicinal agents involves processes ranging from aesthetic clarification to sterile filtration. The processes involved may include control of particulate contaminants during the blending or emulsifying of raw materials within manufacturing environments, transfer of products during the process or during the final packaging, which may require sterile processing. Depending on the derivation of the active ingredients, the removal of haze or filter aids such as activated carbon may be necessary to produce a final product meeting quality standard. As many of these processes are under FDA, EU or similar guidance, additional quality standards related to microbial content or extractable materials will need to be considered.
