Exploring Arsenic Removal Technologies

Metsorb® HMRG was highlighted in the June publication of Water Quality Products for the removal of arsenic from water.  Water contaminated by arsenic continues to be a health hazard globally. There are many available technologies that can remove arsenic from contaminated waters, but adsorption often is a preferred method to treat contaminated waters because of its generally low cost, low energy, high efficiency, ease-of-operation and manageable waste. These adsorptive materials include metal oxides, zeolites, activated carbons and titanium-based sorbents, among others which selectively remove arsenic from aqueous sources.

MetSorb® HMRG adsorbents utilize a patented material to adsorb both forms of arsenic as well as a wide range of contaminants in water. Empty bed contact times as low as 10 seconds achieve high removal efficiencies. The material affords a higher capacity and a lower level of ion interference than competitive iron and alumina based products. MetSorb® HMRG media’s adsorptive capacity is 7-12 grams of arsenic per kilogram of HMRG adsorbent in drinking water applications with a pH range of 6.5-8.5.
